Annual Cardboard Show

Several of my works will appear in "The Cardboard Show" at Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, opening Friday Oct. 21, 2016. This year, you may purchase handmade fans, a handmade book, or Jumping Jacks, all made from recycled materials. Half of all proceeds go to "Project Onward," which provides creative opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

Quilts and Human Rights

One of my quilts has been published in a book called "Quilts and Human Rights," from the University of Nebraska press. This is a stunning book, with a foreword by Desmond Tutu, and many quilts that go far beyond simple geometric patterns! I feel honored to be a part of it.

My First Video: "Tears Not Shed"

Immigrants

 I have recently had my DNA tested, and was surprised to find that I am not as exclusively European as I thought I was! The further back we investigate, the more mixed-up we are, since everyone immigrated throughout history. Now I feel related to everyone I meet.
So I made some little immigrants out of recycled materials and here they are wandering around my back yard.

"No More Nightmares," a quilt measuring 78" x 60," shows masks from many cultures, and some invented ones as well. Wearing a mask gives us power that we may not feel in everyday life.
While contemplating this work, my father was slowly dying, "unmasking." He became emaciated and covered with sores. There he is, along the right side of the quilt. To me, this is the most frightening image of all. If we face our fears, do we have no more nightmares?
This quilt will be a part of the Culture Bridge exhibit at Dank Haus, 4740 North Western, Chicago, Il. opening Feb. 20, through March 19, 2016. I will be teaching bookmaking, puppet-making,  and other art classes there on Saturday afternoons coincidental with the exhibit.
