This is another image from my novel, Balanced On the Edge. It is an assemblage of small toys from the 1950's, t.v. parts, and newspaper articles about the early days of television.

Another Show!

Some of my handmade books are currently showing at the LaCrosse (Wisconsin) public library. Here is a deer looking in the window trying to read one of the books.

Happy Spring, everyone! I am lonely and need "followers"! If you like my work, I will send you a handmade collaged postcard absolutely FREE, if you become one of my "followers." I don't like that word because I don't consider myself a cult leader or movie star, and in fact I do not like being followed. But DO drop me a line, please, and I promise I will send you a postcard in return.

This book is called "The Earth is a Garden." It is made of sticks, tissue paper, dried leaves and flowers, feathers, yarn, and a ceremonial photograph from 1910. Its contents poetically describe my approach to gardening. The book stand is made from sticks, poppy pods, and shells. The entire structure is very fragile, as is our planet.

We set up my display of handmade books at the Blackstone library in Chicago's Hyde Park today. I managed to fit ten books in each case. Sorry it's a bit difficult to see much detail in these photos. Everyone is welcome to go see the exhibit! Also come to my free bookmaking class on March 9, 2013.

I'm dyeing! Tie-dyeing, that is. I like how this cotton gauze turned out. Also dyed a bunch of old doilies and lace. Not sure what I'll do with them.

Another show

My artwork will be in another show during March! "Out of Line" art gallery in Chicago will have a group show with the theme "Peace, War, and more War." Several of my collages will be included, three from my novel. The gallery is on Chicago avenue, just east of California.

This is my most recent quilt, an adaptation of an old pattern called "spiderweb".
This is the back, with strange hybrid creatures captured in the quilted webs.
                                                         Detail of Catterfly woman.

Detail of the rare, long-legged, Turtlefoot Cardinal

Some of my first posts were of other Hybrid Creatures that I created in my laboratory during our long Chicago winters.
